THE HOLLOW

An Online Grief-Tending Circle for Perinatal Loss

Miscarriage · Stillbirth · Infant Loss · TFMR · Infertility · IVF · SIDS

In the redwood forest, fire sometimes burns all the way into the heart of a tree. It leaves a hollow, a cavern, a blackness, evidence of what it was been through, what it still holds.

The tree keeps growing, is still a part of the forest, a home for so much life. It doesn't hide what happened , how it is now shaped by this loss. It grows around the wound and carries it upward, into everything it becomes next.

This is a circle for that kind of hollow, the one carved into you by a love and a loss that cannot be separated. A place to rest in the dark center of it, without being pushed toward closing over. It’s about being held in the sacred space of loving and grieving at the same time, and finding community and practices that supports this.

This is a space for those living alongside the death of a baby, the loss of a pregnancy, or the losses that come with infertility and IVF. This is not a place to resolve your grief. It is a place to be met in it.

THE HOLLOW - an online Group for Grief-Tending Perinatal Loss

WHEN: Apply by October 27th. Sessions are from November 3rd- January 26th.

Tuesdays at 1pm-2:30 PST.

This is an ongoing group, with 12 week commitment periods. People may stay as long as they like, with gates opening to leave or for new people every 12 weeks. The group is forming now and will begin when we have enough participants. (Starting between June-August 2026)

WHO: This group is for anyone who has walked through pregnancy loss, stillbirth, infant loss, termination for medical reasons, SIDS, IVF and infertility, who wants to tend to their grief. Whether your loss was 5 weeks or 50 years ago, you are welcome. All genders and identities welcome. This will be a small group of 8 or fewer participants only.

WHAT: For those mentioned above, this group will provide apprenticeship in the way of grief, and in community. We will have time for dropping in, visualizations, sharing our stories, learning practices for grief, drum and song, and simple ritual. This is not a therapy group, but a grief-tending space, facilitated by Jessica Malmberg, who is a Grief and Trauma Therapist, a Grief Ritual facilitator, and a mama who has walked through the loss of her infant for 18 years.

WHERE: Participants may join from anywhere in the USA or world, as long as they can log in to zoom at this time.

COST: $90 per session for 12 weeks. ($1000 in full - $80 discount) Payment plans are available.

There is something about being in a circle with others who deeply understand the dark realms you are walking through that brings a ground that is desperately needed.

Imagine… instead of people stepping away, feeling overwhelmed by your story, dismissing the intensity of your pain, they are leaning in, they are valuing what you know, they are wanting to hear more.

The deep losses of pregnancy, of stillbirth, of infant loss and termination for medical reasons, are not easily understood by most, leaving parents so isolated and alone in figuring out how to live life now, how to take the next steps, how to continue living, with this loss, with this love.

With this Grief-Tenders Circle for Pregnancy and Infant Loss, we will gather weekly with the intention of facing our love and sorrow, entering into our broken hearts with reverence and support. When we do it together, there is a smoothing of the path, there is a place to sit, there is a place in our hearts created for this work to land.

The Hollow

Jessica Malmberg, LMFT is passionate about grief tending. Having walked with the loss of her infant son for 18 years, she knows the dark realms well and has learned how navigate this territory, finding wild trails, music, poetry and community to be steady guides.

She completed the Grief Ritual Training with Francis Weller, and has spent several years in soulful community in weekly meetings with he and a community of people with hearts open to being with grief. She is also participating regularly in community with KeeningRegularly offering grief and trauma therapy to clients in this realm adds to her understanding and experience of these losses.

She has found that the darkness of grief creates fertile soil for dreams, love and joy and loves to provide a space to be with the fullness of it all. She actively works with parents who have gone through miscarriages, infertility, TFMR, stillbirth, infant loss, SIDS, IVF and infertility, and welcomes their big broken hearts.

My Approach

My approach is gentle and patient. It is informed by depth, by the idea that grief is not only something to manage, but something to listen to, with its own images, its own timing, its own wisdom. I trust the pace of the soul over the pace the modern world expects.

I hold this work with curiosity rather than certainty, and with spaciousness rather than agenda. There is room here for what doesn't resolve, for what circles back, for what has no clear shape yet.

This work is rooted in old, human ways of tending sorrow, drumming, singing, silence, ritual, the body, the presence of others. Long before grief became something to mute, to hide, people gathered, made sound, told the truth of their loss and were supported by community. I bring that same instinct into this circle: to listen, to make space, to be with what hurts, and to leave room, always, for love.
